DESCRIPTIVE BIO

My practice is an expression of the principles of Ortho-Bionomy® and Traditional Asian Medicine, honoring each person’s journey, helping each person to find his or her own rhythm and balance.

I began my study and practice of Shiatsu in 1993, in New Orleans, LA.  I fell in love with Traditional Asian Medicine, and in 1994 I completed the 500 hour Shiatsu Practitioner program under the supervision of Vernon Smith at Blue Cliff School of Therapeutic Massage. I was also interested in understanding Western modalities, and studied Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular Therapy, completing the Advanced Practitioner program in early 1995. Around this same time, I discovered Ortho-Bionomy®. I thought I had already found my path in the study of Traditional Asian Medicine, but discovering Ortho-Bionomy® has transformed my practice in profound and synergistic ways. I became a General Member of the Society of Ortho-Bionomy® International in 1995.

In addition to my private practice, I also serve on the editorial staff of AOBTA® Pulse, the professional journal of the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPY

Self-empowerment through bodywork. The body contains its own wisdom.  The work is a healing conversation – in which patterns are noticed and reflected back to the body, so that the body itself can make any needed shifts in the patterns.

What to expect with your initial visit

One of the basic principles of Ortho-Bionomy® is that we move towards comfort – pain in any degree is a signal to move in another direction.  The body’s signals are honored; and, because we strive to find and reflect the body’s patterns, this work is deeply relaxing and comfortable.  People often describe the work as feeling like floating, or moving through water.

What to expect after the initial visit

The changes begin on the table; the effects of the treatment continue throughout the day, so that the likelihood is that you will feel even better by the evening of your session, or the following day.

The goal is to remind the body of where comfort is; as it learns its place of comfort, it is able to return to it more easily, and remain there more easily.
